Rhizome Shortlist Case Study
Discover how Rhizome, an early-stage energy startup, leveraged Climate People’s Shortlist service to efficiently fill key roles, save time, and scale with cost-effective recruitment support.
Scaling Smart: How Rhizome Grew with Climate People’s Shortlist Service
Rhizome, an early-stage energy and grid startup, partnered with Climate People to efficiently grow their team using our new Shortlist service. Having successfully engaged Climate People a year before to find their CTO, Rhizome returned to fill three additional key roles: Business Development Manager, Customer Success Lead, and Data/ML Engineer. Our Shortlist service saved them significant time and provided a cost-effective solution tailored to their early-stage needs.
COMPANY OVERVIEW
Funding Stage: Pre-Seed Climate Sector: Energy and Grid Number of Employees: 5
SITUATION
As Rhizome looked to expand, it entered the search process, understanding a few critical challenges it needed to overcome to find the right talent. As an early-stage startup, it wanted to remain cost-conscious without sacrificing candidate quality, and it understood that traditional job postings would result in a deluge of underqualified applications.
They had previously posted positions on Climatebase and experienced limited exposure to high-quality candidates. Managing applications took a lot of work and time. With no formal recruitment process in place and their small team already stretched thin, they needed an efficient and affordable solution to attract and curate top talent.
Rhizome had previously used Climate People’s Engaged Search service to find their CTO. Now, they needed support to hire for three critical roles: Business Development Manager, Customer Success Lead, and Software Engineer.
HIRING CHALLENGES
Filling three specialized roles was a priority, but Rhizome lacked the time and resources to dedicate hours to recruitment and reviewing job applications.
Traditional recruitment fees, typically 20% or more of the first-year salary, were too costly for Rhizome as a pre-seed startup.
They needed to quickly identify and hire qualified candidates without compromising on quality.
IMPACT
Climate People’s Shortlist service addressed Rhizome’s challenges by significantly reducing the time spent on hiring. With an average time saving of 26 hours per job, Rhizome was able to focus on interviewing only the most qualified candidates. The service’s affordability made it an ideal choice for their early-stage budget. The successful hiring of these three roles allowed Rhizome to continue scaling without the typical hiring bottlenecks.
COLLABORATION
The partnership between Rhizome and Climate People was marked by a clear understanding of Rhizome’s unique needs. Climate People’s Shortlist service provided the perfect balance of expert support and affordability, allowing Rhizome to manage the interview process while benefiting from professional candidate filtering and job postings.
SYMBIOTIC RELATIONSHIP
Rhizome recognized the value Climate People brought to their hiring process. “We were experiencing limited exposure to high-quality candidates, and managing applications was relatively difficult,” their CEO Mishal Thadani noted.
Our Shortlist service helped bridge this gap, as Mishal highlighted, “We received a significantly higher number of applications using Climate People, so the resume review and filtering service was extremely helpful.”
The time-saving aspect of the service was also crucial, with Rhizome sharing, “Shortlist saved a ton of time, Brendan flagged certain qualities of people who were appealing.”
Rhizome also appreciated the alignment between their needs and the service provided by Climate People: “The service was scoped exactly for where we are — need to save time and increase exposure for candidate sourcing but wanted to own the lifecycle of the interview process.”
